Recovery deserves a map, not just a response.

In Sri Lanka, crisis response and legal protections for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence exist — but long-term recovery support is often harder to find, scattered across organisations, and rarely explained in plain language. SafeHerSpace aims to make reliable information about longer-term recovery and support easier to find, in one calm, private place.

How the resource is being built

SafeHerSpace is being developed for Sri Lanka through a careful, research-led process — not by collecting unverified information from the internet.

Built through research and consultation

Every piece of information in the live resource will travel this path before publication.

Phase one

  1. Research

    Interviews and focus discussions with survivors, counsellors, legal-aid providers and women's organisations to understand what long-term recovery support is actually needed.

  2. Service mapping

    Identifying mental-health, legal, social and community services across Sri Lanka — their coverage, languages, access methods and referral pathways.

  3. Resource development

    Turning what the research surfaces into plain-language guides, educational content and a structured, searchable directory.

Phase two

  1. Review

    Draft content and service information checked with the professionals and organisations it describes.

  2. Validation

    Testing the resource with survivors and frontline supporters to make sure it is safe, understandable and genuinely useful.

  3. Dissemination

    Sharing the finished resource through the networks survivors already trust — NGOs, universities, counsellors and community groups.
