About SafeHerSpace
Recovery deserves a map, not just a response.
In Sri Lanka, crisis response and legal protections for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence exist — but long-term recovery support is often harder to find, scattered across organisations, and rarely explained in plain language. SafeHerSpace aims to make reliable information about longer-term recovery and support easier to find, in one calm, private place.
How the resource is being built
Because the project is still in development, this prototype does not make claims about impact or reach. What you see here demonstrates the intended experience; the content will be earned through the process below.
Built through research and consultation
Every piece of information in the live resource will travel this path before publication.
Phase one
-
Research
Interviews and focus discussions with survivors, counsellors, legal-aid providers and women's organisations to understand what long-term recovery support is actually needed.
-
Service mapping
Identifying mental-health, legal, social and community services across Sri Lanka — their coverage, languages, access methods and referral pathways.
-
Resource development
Turning what the research surfaces into plain-language guides, educational content and a structured, searchable directory.
Phase two
-
Review
Draft content and service information checked with the professionals and organisations it describes.
-
Validation
Testing the resource with survivors and frontline supporters to make sure it is safe, understandable and genuinely useful.
-
Dissemination
Sharing the finished resource through the networks survivors already trust — NGOs, universities, counsellors and community groups.
Contributors
Who contributed
SafeHerSpace is built by a small team. These are the people who brought the project to life.

Nadithi Jagoda
Founder & Project Lead
Founded and leads SafeHerSpace, a multilingual resource platform developed through Beyond Survival: Strengthening Long-Term Recovery Pathways for Survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Sri Lanka. As a YouthForSAMAJ Fellow with Equality Now and SAMAJ, she conceptualised and leads the initiative, overseeing its research, development, stakeholder engagement and overall direction.
Her work includes conducting stakeholder meetings with organisations, service providers and professionals in the SGBV response system; exploring existing support services and gaps in long-term recovery pathways; coordinating efforts to verify reliable resources; and engaging with relevant institutions to strengthen the information available to people seeking support. She also coordinates the website’s development, multilingual content, research-informed recovery resources and the collaborative team, working to make trustworthy information and support services more accessible, inclusive and easier to navigate for people affected by sexual and gender-based violence in Sri Lanka.
